Conferring with the new Principal, Dr. Titus Presler, regularizing faculty and seeking to clarifying organizational structures were prominent on the agenda of the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors of Executive College when it met on Thursday, 19 May 2011, in the Board Room of the College Bungalow.
In introducing himself, Canon Titus said that he had been warmly welcomed by the faculty, students and administrative staff of the college. He appreciated the daily Morning Meeting of the College Management Team, when issues regarding academics, student affairs and administration are discussed. He said the group is working to build up the college as one of the best institutions of higher education in the region. He thanked Prof. Naseem Haider Kazmi for his wise and efficient leadership of the college as Acting Principal during the interim between principals and for his many years service to the college. The same was endorsed by the Chair, the Rt. Revd. Humphrey Sarfaraz Peters. “I am glad to be here, and I am enjoying the work and the environs,” said the Principal. “I am grateful for excellent colleagues: Prof. Nasim Haider, Prof. Kalim Ullah, Prof. Francis Karamat and Mr. Fahim Khan of the Management Team. I have had many conversations and gatherings: plenaries with faculty and staff, receptions for PYLC and LUMS awardees and impending graduates, and other times with students. Bishop and I met with the Governor for an initial meeting, and then this week the Vice Principals and I attended the dinner for higher education leaders from throughout the province at Governor’s House, where I had opportunity to meet the Governor again. A diocesan function on AIDS work enabled me to interact in a friendly environment with local leaders of Jamaat-i-Islami, the conservative religious political party.” The group discussed in detail Vision 2013, the document that sets directions for the college over the next several years. It also reviewed the Principal’s position description, which details responsibilities in the areas of academics, internal administration, finance and property, Board of Governors, overall leadership, and external relations. This comprehensive list is the first such position description for an Edwardes principal and is designed to be a model for improving position descriptions throughout the college. Meeting between gatherings of the Board of Governors, the Executive Committee is empowered to facilitate the governance of the college through deliberation and authorization of certain types of administrative decisions. It is chaired by the Bishop of the Diocese of Peshawar, which owns and sponsors the college through the Church of Pakistan. The committee approved regularization of six Professional Studies faculty who had been on contract: Saadat Ali, Syeda Sana Naseem, Usman Siddique, Bilal Ahmed, Salman Ahmad, and Ayesha Ali. It approved the re-employment of three retired faculty: Innocent Naveed Attaullah, Donald Joseph, and Muhammad Mushtaq. It expressed gratitude for the long service of faculty who had previously been re-employed and whose service will end at the conclusion of their current contracts: Muhammad Tariq, Denis Joseph, M. S. Zakii, Allah Bakhsh Sajid, and Iqbal Ahmad Awan. It regularized the appointments of Fahim Khan as Finance Director and Muhammad Haris as Accounts Officer. The Executive Committee discussed a proposed property purchase and appointed a committee to explore it. The group discussed options for registering the college under relevant government acts and ordinances. A review of legal issues concluded the meeting. Present at the meeting were: Chair, the Rt.
