In a major transition in the leadership of Edwardes College, Prof. Sayed Naseem Haider Kazmi retired as First Vice Principal as of 31 December 2011. He has served as Vice Principal since 2008. Prof. Naseem will continue as Professor of Biology in reemployed status.
This shift comes at Prof. Naseem’s own request at the conclusion of his term of appointment as Vice Principal by the Board of Governors, said Principal Dr. Titus Presler. He is being succeeded in the position of First Vice Principal by Second Vice Principal Prof. Kalim Ullah, with whom he has worked closely.
In the letter to Prof. Naseem marking his retirement, the Principal wrote: “As in your many previous posts at the College, stretching back to 1974, you have faithfully rendered valuable service in your present position. During the very difficult interim between principals you steered Edwardes through complex and important decisions as Acting Principal. Your work as Vice Principal has been characterized consistently by grace, efficiency and wisdom in the many issues of academics, personnel and administration that you have faced. It has been an honor to be your colleague. The faculty, administration, staff and alumni join me in deep gratitude to you for your outstanding service.” A graduate of Edwardes, Prof. Naseem holds the MSc degree in Botany from the University of Peshawar. He rejoined Edwardes in 1974 as a Demonstrator in the Biology Department, and he was appointed Lecturer in Biology in 1976. In 1996 he was appointed Hostel Warden and later became Senior Warden of the Hostel. In 1997 he was appointed Assistant Director of Studies and later became Director of Studies. In 2001 he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, becoming full Professor in 2007. As Acting Principal during the leadership interim (May 2010 to May 2011), Prof. Naseem stabilized the College following the departure of the previous principal, oversaw the reorganization of the Finance Department, and nurtured relationships with important external constituencies during a difficult time in the history of the College. Thus Prof. Naseem is concluding 37 years of service to Edwardes College. An appropriate gathering to honor him will be held as early as possible in 2012, Dr. Presler stated. |
