1 January 2012: Dear College Community,
As you return to College in the new year 2012, you will find that a number of important appointments have been made. Prof. Kalim Ullah is the new First Vice Principal, bringing his deep dedication to Edwardes to this important position. You well know his energy, humor and ability to work with people both within and outside the College. During the free-association game held during the Hostel Christmas Dinner, Prof. Kalim was asked to say the first phrase that came into his mind when he heard "Edwardes College," and his telling response was, "my life"! We look forward to his continued guidance in the life of the College.
Prof. Kalim succeeds Prof. Naseem Haider in the position, and it is with sadness that we bid this dear colleague farewell in that position, for he has rendered long and outstanding service to Edwardes. A gathering will be held in his honor, and meanwhile we are glad that he will continue to teach Biology and to offer counsel to the Management Team when needed.
Prof. Muhammad Akhyar, Director of Studies and Head of Physics, has been appointed Second Vice Principal. On the model of his faithful work of coordinating academic schedules, we look forward to his contribution in the 2nd VP post.
We are delighted that Mr. Shah Mehmood has agreed to become Administrative Officer, succeeding Prof. Francis Karamat, who is on long leave. In this position Shah will oversee requisitions, human resources and College functions, and he will continue to oversee buildings and grounds until the pending appointment of an Estate Manager is finalized.
There are several transitions in the Finance Department. Mr. Fahim Khan, who has overseen the complete renovation of Edwardes College finances over the past several years and has brought stability and growth after a troubled time, is going on a six-month extraordinary leave. While we will miss him immensely, we are glad that Miss Sana Manzur is taking on the Acting Finance Directorship as she shifts from her role as Internal Auditor. Mr. Abdul Qadeem Khan, from the accounting firm of Shahid Ahmad & Co., has been serving as Acting Internal Auditor since mid-December.
As a result of the various appointments, the current composition of the Management Team is now: Principal Dr. Presler, 1st VP Kalim Ullah, 2nd VP Muhammad Akhyar, Admin Officer Shah Mehmood, and Acting Finance Director Sana Manzur.
Finally, the team of Hostel Wardens have been confirmed in their roles: Prof. Naveed Ali as Senior Warden, Prof. Taj Masih as Degree Warden, Prof. Changez Khan as 2nd-Year Warden, and Prof. Noor Jamal as Assistant Warden. I have witnessed the fine and inspirational leadership of this team in a number of contexts and am delighted that they will be continuing in these roles.
These appointments have been made in consultation with the Management Team and have been endorsed by the Chair of the College Executive Committee, Bishop Humphrey Sarfaraz Peters, pending endorsement by the full Executive Committee and by the Board of Governors as early as possible in 2012.
