Former Edwardes lecturer and current Cambridge University scholar Najeeb Ullah delivered a lecture at Edwardes on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the Old Hall on the topic “Nanotechnology, Solar Energy and the Challenges for Our Young Generation." Najeeb Ullah is a member of the Material Chemistry Group at Cambridge University, where he is pursuing a PhD on the topic “Harnessing Solar Energy via Photocatalytic Materials for Chemical Reactions.” “Being a research scholar in energy, I know that the huge problem of energy and electricity cannot be solved by rental power plants.” Najeeb said. “The only solution I can see is if members of the younger generation are trained in solar, wind and other renewable energies in Pakistan.” Najeeb holds the MSc in Chemistry from the University of Peshawar, for which his research topic was ““Effect of pH on Melamine Formaldehyde Resin.” His MPhil thesis has been submitted, also to the University of Peshawar, on the topic “Chemical Modification of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) for Sorption of Metal Ions.” His BSc is from Gomal University. He lectured in the Edwardes Chemistry Department from 2003 to 2006 and is a faculty member at the University of Engineering and Technology in Peshawar. Najeeb attended the Edwardes alumni gathering held at Liverpool Hope University in the UK in October. During his brief visit to Pakistan he is researching the use of solar power in water treatment facilities.
