Retired Edwardes professors are honoured PDF Print E-mail

Five retired Edwardes professors were honoured at a reception arranged by the Edwardes College Teachers Welfare Association (ECTWA) on Thursday, 2 February 2012, in the Canterbury Hall of the College.  The retirees were Prof. Muhammad Tariq, Prof. M. S. Zakki, Prof. Dennis Joseph. Prof. A. B. Sajid and Prof. Iqbal Ahmad Awan, each of whom was presented with a commendation shield.

Among the 15 speakers at the occasion were Peshawar Diocese Bishop Humphrey Sarfaraz Peters, alumnus and chair of the College Executive Committee, who recalled his student and faculty days at the College, celebrated the achievements of Edwardes alumnae throughout the country, and said Edwardes is a community outstanding for its interfaith harmony.  

Col. Mazhar Ali Shah, who graduated in 1939 and is president of the Edwardes College Old Students Association, suggested special seats for children of alumni, commended the work of ECTWA, and announced a Rs. 25,000 donation to the association. 

First Vice Principal Prof. Kalim Ullah commended the retired faculty for their deep and longstanding contributions to the College's educational work.  ECTWA President Prof. Gulzar Jalal likewise praised the retired faculty for their service.  Out of the country, Principal Titus Presler conveyed his regrets and wrote, "These professors have rendered long and valuable service to the College, and especially to generations of students, who are now offering leadership throughout Pakistan and the world."

Major Pakistani news organizations covered the event.  "Edwardes College stands for interfaith harmony" was the headline of a report on the event in the Feb. 4 edition of Daily Dawn International.  On the same day the News International headlined its report "Edwardes College erudite emeritus professors honoured."
