Hostel Campfire Night features Pashto music and poetry PDF Print E-mail

A sizzling performance by Pashto folk singers, together with clapping and dancing, marked the Campfire Night of the Edwardes College Hostel held at its historical Shalimar Court on Wednesday, 1 February 2012.  Vice Principal Prof. Kalim Ullah inaugurated the traditional event, now revived after a hiatus of about six year years, by lighting the fire.

Campfire Night started at 10pm as folk singers from Sawabi Mardan rocked the group by signing the most popular Pashto songs and the poetry of famous Pashto poets such as Ghani Khan.  Throughout the night students expressed their enjoyment by dancing the Atern cultural dance. Shalimar Court was decorated with carpets, traditional cushions (tukkias) and charpais.  At the event’s conclusion a traditional breakfast was offered to hostel students and guests.

Administrative Officer Shah Mehmood and Chief Proctor Prof. Attaullah Jan along with his staff Proctor Prof. Nasir Iqbal attended Campfire Night. The event was organized by Senior Warden Prof. Naveed Ali along with his team of Wardens Prof. Taj Masih, Prof. Changez Khan and Prof. Noor Jamal and the hostel prefects.

“This was a marvelous event!” said Vice Principal Kalim.  “I have never witnessed such an amazing and superb event during my stay in hostel over ten years,” said Warden Changez Khan.
